2021 July- Fayette County neighborhood Council in person meetings

The Fayette County Neighborhood Council is happy to announce that it will have in person general meetings on the second Monday in July (July 12) the second Monday in September (September 13) and the second Monday in December (December 13).

Each will be in-person at Tates Creek Christian Church on Tates Creek Road at Albany Road. Masks will be discretionary for those who have been fully vaccinated for COVID 19 and mandatory for those who have not. Please mark your calendars.

We have not yet selected topics for the meetings, but they will be forthcoming as the time approaches. If you have suggestions, let us know at fayetteneighborhoods@gmail.com.

Several issues are currently under discussion and will impact neighborhoods. Please consider talking with your council members about them:

1. Accessory Dwelling Units — Lexington Fayette Urban County Council will further consider an ADU Ordinance soon. The Fayette Alliance, the Lane Report, Lexington Senior Center, and the American Association of Retired Persons (AARP) have all promoted the benefits of accessory dwelling units (ADUs).

2. The Nicholasville Road Study, recently approved in the Planning Commission and now in Council, would completely change Nicholasville Road. (See Imagine Nicholasville Road on the web.) An important part of the intent of the plan is for Lexington to become less “car-centric” and use LexTran busses more.

3. There also is a Parking Ordinance under consideration that could allow developers to decide on the number of parking spaces needed for a new development themselves. This proposal would set design standards that would make new parking lots more physically attractive and safer as well.
