Updates from Fayette County Neighborhood Council

August 1, 2023

Dear Neighbors,

General Meeting Presentation:We will be posting on fcnc.org a link to Barbara Sutherland and Rona Roberts’s presentations at the most recent FCNC General Meeting on the history of segregated housing in Lexington and its impact. It’s important to understand our history as we try to set housing policy now and for the future. If you were not at the meeting, I think you would find the document worth a look. We will let you know when we have posted the presentation. The FCNC website is fcnc.org.

FCNC Dues: The FCNC fiscal year ended on June 30, and we have just sent out dues notices for FY 2023/2024 for $40 per Homeowner’s Association, Neighborhood Association, or individual membership. Please make sure that your neighborhood receives the dues notice. Otherwise it could mean that FCNC no longer knows the name and address of your Treasurer. If so please contact us at fayetteneighborhoods.

Short-term Rental Ordinance: FCNC is working on an update on Lexington’s newly passed short-term rental ordinance (Airbnb, VRBO, etc.). Two council members formed a committee with unknown members and drafted the ordinance toward the end of 2022 and sent it to the Planning Commission. It recently passed the Planning Commission and the Council without public input having any significant impact on the outcome. FCNC believes that it contains problems that will need correction.

ADU Update: The Planning Commission has also started to look at Accessory Dwelling Units 1.5 years after initial passage of Lexington’s ADU ordinance. We will be advising you on what might be under consideration for changes and about what has happened after passage of the ADU Ordinance.

I hope everyone is enjoying our summer (even with oppressive heat). You will be hearing from FCNC again in the near future.
